A collaboration between Santu Mofokeng, bookmaker Lunetta Bartz, editor-curator Joshua Chuang and German publisher Gerhard Steidl, this 21-book anthology presents a selection of 551 photos drawn from an archive of approximately 32 000 frames made between 1985 and 2011. The work is organised into 18 essays or “stories” that capture the full ambition of Mofokeng’s projects documenting political resistance, democratic voting, labour tenancy, faith and cultural practice.
