"The old circus tent in the image hadn’t been used for years and was standing, seemingly abandoned on an empty lot alongside the Black River: I kept revisiting that site, and knew I had to photograph it. One day I did and the following week I drove past and it was gone; all there was left were the marks in the soil made by those people and creatures who had once been there – traces and scars in the land."
